Overview

Throughout the semester we have been giving speeches in Humour and Satire. I started out very timid and still am, but I have slowly increased my loudness so people could hear me a bit better. I also have been using more hand guestures and had eye contact with the class while speaking. I use um and like a lot during the allotted time to talk and should continue working on that, even eliminating it from my everyday speech.

The aid of notecards has helped my pauses during my speech imensly but only if i fill out the notecard with adequate information that can be read quickly and used effectivly while speaking. I have slowed down my talk but still talk too fast while not noticing the corners of the room. I also worked more on the conclusion that instead of walking away saying that's it I have come up with quotes or statements as last impressions on what I have said.

I would be a much better speaker if I would learn to move around and be comfortable where I am with no second thought to what I would look like or come across as. There is always room to improve and you never stop learning till you take a dirt nap so I will continue to try and become a better public speaker.

How to Cartwheel

While doing in my speech I was good on getting most of the class with eye contact. I was also able to still be clear in my speech and what I was saying while being upside down. I also used a notecard this time to remind me of more topics to talk about. What was also good was that I had something to get people's attention as I did random gymnastics moves that caught a lot of people off guard.

During my speech i was too rushed and didn't have enough information and facts. I should have talked about why I choose this speech. I also needed to be better prepared with the shirt I wore that day, I thought it would stay down during the speech but I didn't double check this fact. I also stoll had a waiver in my voice as if I was unsure in what I wanted to say. I have trouble being myself infront of people at SCHOOL. I have done this many times for things at church and haven't thought much about it but as soon as I come into a school atmosphere I tone it down and become more reserved. I also needed to make my speech longer and include more topics and expand on them because I need to remember, not everyone is going to know everything I am talking about. They might know bits and pieces but the reason I am speaking is to make sure they understand the whole thing.

Informative Speech

While giving an informative speech about the History of the Guinness book of world records I found I needed to work on my eye contact with the audience, I was mainly staring at the slides. Note cards would've helped in this istance. I also said "uh" and "and" too much during the presentation. This could be due to a lack of preperation or lack of enthusiasim. I still need to learn to be louder but I was better this time. Also did you notice that there was a right side of the class room? I didn't during this speech as I was shifting around like a cat in a room full of rocking chairs. I also needed to add voice inflictions through out the speech unlike the monotone that I carried through out, but who could tell if I had a monotone because I can't hear myself on the recording. There is apparently a mouse in the classroom now unless I find the courage to speak up, be sure to hide Mr. Lunn. I need to have a stronger ending as well other than walking away in a hasty retreat as I try not to go red faced.

My Brown Bag Speech

When I gave my speech infront of the class I noticed that I was slouching a lot while flailing my arms and that I could barely hear myself on the recording. My voice sounded shakey to my own ears but it seemed fine on the audio. I also said Um and like a lot more than I should have and I needed to present myself better with my clothing choice rather and in a tee shirt and jeans.

This is Tranio because he wants to have a good time and is a bit of a duisguie artist.
He is Baptista because baptista is most likely and older stricter man and wants everything to go his way.
He is Lucincio because he doesn't really have a chance with the girl but he still is going to try any way he can to get the girl
This dude is Grumio cause he fights with Hortensio and it is like the battle that goes on in the *gag* twilight saga
I hardly know anything about Brad Pitt so I am putting as Hortensio who I also know nothing about, YAY! (Hortensio could be cute......even though he has a funny name ;)   )
Zac Effron is Petruchio because he seems only to care about money and fame, thinking about the here and now and not about the lasting results that could scar you for life.
I chose Miley Cyrus as Bianca because Bianca could be exactly like Katherine, only people don't know as much about her because she is more silent and innocent looking.

Tamming the Shrew Casting

This is Katherine the Shrew because she has become so worldly and has lost that "country" girl touch and is most likely a harsh speaker.

Deadpan humor

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ey_IL57a-b0

Tim Hawkins is very interesting in that he can be overly expressive at ne point, then he can show little emotion and stare at the audience and get them to laugh. Deadpan humor is exemplified here when he doesn't do anything and stares at the audience

Malapropism

" 'Don't' is a contraption."

Malapropism is defined as a substitution of a word for another word that sounds the same, but the end result doesn't make sense. In this example the speaker ment to say that "don't" is a contraction, but instead uses an incorect word.

Reversal

In the movie Mrs. Doubtfire, the husband of a family experinces a divorce because his wife is tired of his careless attitude. The husband is no longer able to see his 3 children and applies for a job as thier nanny under the name of Mrs. Doubtfire, a supposed older english woman. During most of the movie it goes through the challenges that "Mrs. Doubtfire" encounters as he tries to hold on to 2 jobs and the love of his children.

Visual Satire

Oh so very true, not many people understand what they have done to other people until they experince it for themsleves. The main lesson here is the golden rule, the hard part is remembering it in your everyday life

Answering Machine

I would love to go to this school

Me

I am 16 years old, and yes, I do not have my driver's licence. Life has been going great lately though because I have been getting really involved in my church Youth Group. The funnest parts of when I hang out with my friends is when I get hurt in some way and then start to laugh out loud, like slipping in the hallway today because I wore high heels and I don't have the best balance. I love to do tecknical things with computers and drawing a lot. Reading is also a passion of mine and my mom and I often get into debates over who gets to read the new books we get first. I also love sports because they are a challenge, but I unfortunatly do not get to play the one sport i absolutely love, gymnastics. I cannot do gymnastics because I have scholosis (a slight curve in my spine) that throws me off balance when I do backhand springs and causes me to land on my head. I was in this wonderful sport from kindergarden to fourth grade before it caused me too much pain and I quit, looking back I'm lucky to be walking. But since then church has become my life and I've loved every minute of it.

Subtitles

There are many interesting twists and turns within the human mind and differences in culture can affect this significantly........maybe that's what's wrong with this guy.
